Sunday 4 December 2011 - Lenham Christmas Lights switch on - A great day out for children of all ages!
The Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Brian Mortimer opened the event with Gez Clark, Lenhams own award winning Town Crier.
Visiting for the day came childrens carousel, test your strength, candy floss, doughnuts, traditional sweets and adult stalls to add to the attractions for those of us young at heart!
Hospital Radio were there all day too to add to the celebration.
East Kent Morris Men courtesy of the Dog and Bear, and inside Liz from WhizzBang painted your face or your body if that's what you wanted.
Just behind the queue was Santa's Grotto, otherwise known as Philip Jarvis Estate Agent. A fine grotto it was with the real Santa (of course) and a team of Faye’s elves in various sizes. Fresh from the skies, Simon Burchett from Channel Photography was there to record your visit.
From the Red Lion there was a hog roast and other goodies.
Meanwhile back in the cool winter weather the Window Display Competition was judged during the morning and announced just before switch on as well as recorded for the LVBA website (see link below).
Nancy Sorrell, Vic Reeves, Nellie and Lizzie joined us so the twins could do a fantastic singing performance and then the count down and light up Lenham with Christmas Festive Lights around the whole Square and up the High Street.
I guess everyone already knows that these events don’t put themselves on or just happen by accident. Thanks goes to all the hard working people already mentioned plus a few more here. Brian Jones from Ambilly Trees leads the team for six or seven weekends making sure the lights are secure and fully functioning; Lenham Valley Business Association members bring logistic and the watchful eye on the day plus marketing skills in the form of Alan Reading (right) (Custom Marketing Resources), Ken Parish (Amesis) for his help with LVBA promotions (and Marino for the premises) & James Collett (JC Surveyor) and his Lenham Focus team for help with publicity.
Thanks goes to Network Mag, WealdenAd, Maidstone Borough Council and Kent Messenger for their help too.
